Shortlist: two of the best trips to take before you die

These are the trips to add your bucket list

“Nasty, brutish and short” is how some might feel about the day-to-day – but it doesn’t have to be like that.

We’ve picked some of the world’s best trips to fuel your travel fantasies and tickle those itchy feet. See you on the next flight out…

Trek over glaciers in Patagonia

Go trekking on one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Patagonia with Ultimate Expeditions. This six-day tour takes in some of South America’s most spectacular landscapes and incorporates trail walking and ice trekking. Those with an adventurous spirit can circumnavigate turquoise lakes, gawp at ice-blue glaciers and explore Mount Fitz Roy, the formidable mountain which sits on the border with Chile and Argentina. The trip ends with a visit to an ice bar where whisky is served on freshly chopped glacier ice: not for the faint-hearted.

Safari and sand dunes in Namibia

Prepare for some seriously jaw-dropping scenery in this magnificent southern African country on a tour with Expert Africa. Explore Sossusvlei – home to the giant terracotta sand dunes and Tim Burton-style dead trees – and visit sea lion colonies on foot or by kayak on Namibia’s coast. Then head to the safari lands of Etosha in the north to find wildlife such as elephants, cheetahs, lions and rhino. Enjoy local cuisine (seared oryx fillet, anyone?) before drifting off to the chirrup of insects in one of the spectacularly remote safari camps.
